Anxiety is the meteor shower of what if's

November 21, 2018

On a day we want to be filled with Gratitude this Thanksgiving, we also know there is some anxiety that fills today and the Holiday season.  Anxiety is a meteor shower of “what if’s”.  It’s your inner voice creating turmoil in your body.  Anxiety is experiencing failure before it occurs.

Stress costs the US over $300 billion a year, and over $1 billion in medications a year.  America is the most anxious nation in the world.  Things like the need to please other people around us creates this anxiety.  Keeping up with the Jone’s creates it.  A quest for perfection creates it.  A disconnect between our values and behaviors creates it.  Working hard for something we don’t care about, or working hard for someone who doesn’t care about us creates it.  If you are a mom, keeping everything running, missing work from a sick kid at home, getting kids delivered to activities and keeping up with those schedules creates anxiety. Continually picking up our phones and looking at everyone's Facebook and Instagram highlight reel creates thoughts of inadequacy and anxiety.

Some or all of those things can create guilt.  Guilt can breed anxiety, but we must remember, Grace is the fertilizer that sprouts your new future growth, without anxiety.  Anxiety passes as trust grows.  Anxiety passes as we trust in him and lean into him for his guidance, wisdom, and acceptance of us.  We must trust in him, trust in the process.  We must forget the “what if’s”.  We must forget the thoughts of failure before they happen.  The future is known.  God has it all planned.  Lean into him.  Lean into him hard.  Just trust in it and his plan, and fly like an eagle.   And remember, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:6-7

Be in Thanksgiving to him on this Thanksgiving!  Have a Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!
