Finding and coaching your replacement is a lengthy process. So many people at this process because they want that transition to happen overnight. In my opinion, the best way to have a successful leadership transition is over long periods of time - maybe even over a decade.
The goal when I leave AMC is that when I'm totally gone, no one notices. The transition was so successful that no one can tell, and the organization runs flawlessly. In order to get there, it takes years - and that comes through conversations, personal growth, self-improvement, and coaching your replacement.
