Your first visit with Dr. Nels

A Word About Insurance Coverage

Many insurance plans cover a portion of the visit to the chiropractor, but we ask that you check with your insurance company’s customer service representative and ask them what coverage benefits your plan has for a non–member (out–of–network) chiropractor. Specifically:

  • Do they cover examinations as well as treatments, and what is the percentage of coverage?
  • Are there visit limits, or dollar limits to care?
  • How much is your deductible, and how much of it has been met so far?

If you find that you have insurance coverage, please bring your insurance information with you and we will bill them for the covered portion so that you only have to pay the difference on each visit.

When you arrive, you will need to complete a couple of pages of paperwork and then you will have a discussion with Dr. Nels about your reason for seeking wellness care. Next, you will experience a unique examination process that documents your body’s accumulated stress and the effect it is having on your body.

  1. Using the Insight Millennium Subluxation Station, an advanced biometric measurement device, Dr. Nels will measure the electrical activity of your spinal muscles to see if you have significant muscle imbalance that is affecting your health, and
  2. Dr. Nels will measure the temperature variations along your spine to see if your fight or flight system of response is indicating abnormal degrees of stress response.
  3. Next, Dr. Nels will test your saliva pH to see if long term emotional stress could be a significant factor in your health picture.
  4. Then finally, Dr. Nels will perform muscle testing of your arms and legs to document if your motor nerve system has any functional impairment.

Before your first visit to see Dr. Nels, it is important that at least one hour before your visit that you do not:

  • Eat or drink anything besides water.
  • Do not chew gum, or anything else
  • have a mint or candy
  • brush your teeth or use mouthwash.

The purpose of this initial examination is not to diagnose a condition, but to establish a baseline against which your future progress can be measured. Dr. Nels does not offer to diagnose or put a name to your condition. That is medical thinking. We instead seek to establish where you are in your level of adaptation to stress, and then to provide care that, as quickly as possible, reduces and even eliminates your accumulated stress responses so that your body can begin to create successful adaptations to everyday life, reducing pain and increasing vitality. This is a definition of health that you can live with.

For those who are in a lot of pain, or are from out of town, Dr. Nels provides a Bio Energetic Synchronization Technique (B.E.S.T.) treatment immediately following the examination.

Following your first B.E.S.T. treatment, be sure to increase your water intake and decrease sodas or coffee. This is to help minimize the possibility of a detoxification reaction. The more you keep your body hydrated, the more efficiently your body can eliminate acid wastes that may have built up in your tissues.
